Spanish municipalities Los Barrios and Mijas slash supplier payment times

The town hall of Los Barrios reported that its average payment period to suppliers fell to 7.86 days in the second quarter of 2026 after disbursing €3.4 million, a sharp improvement from 18.75 days in the first quarter. Economy and Treasury councilor Manuel Muñoz highlighted the reduction as evidence of effective fiscal management and a commitment to supporting local businesses.

Mijas also announced a decrease in its average supplier payment period, now at 43.93 days, the third‑best figure since January 2020. Economy councilor Mario Bravo said the cut aligns with the statutory goal of a 30‑day payment window and follows reforms such as a new budgeting office and tighter contract controls, which have boosted larger‑scale tenders and reduced minor contracts by over 30 %.
