Regional honors announced across Spain for 2026

Various regional institutions in Spain have announced recipients for their 2026 honorary awards, often held in commemoration of the 9 d'Octubre celebrations.

The Catalan Parliament has unanimously decided to award its Gold Medal of Honor to cartoonist Pilarín Bayés and filmmaker Pere Portabella. The recognition also extends to the Association of Former Political Prisoners of Francoism, the Pro-Memòria Association, and the Centre Excursionista de Catalunya for their contributions to democratic memory and Catalan identity.

In Pedreguer, the Vila de Pedreguer Honor Awards recognize Carles Mulet Grimalt for his literary and pedagogical work, Luis Cortés Meseguer for architectural restoration, Cine Jayan for cultural promotion, and Consuelo García for her defense of liberties.

Other local honors include the 9 d'Octubre mentions in L’Alcúdia de Crespins, awarded to residents Joaquina and Ana Martínez Bonete for land donations, local heroes Andrés Balana Peña and Ian Enguix Cháfer for fire rescue, and the associations Falla La Sénia and Penya El Crist. Meanwhile, Benifaió honored the late Mila López Asensi and the Tyrius Housewives Association for their long-standing community service.
