Spanish municipalities receive EU funds for flood mitigation

Municipalities in the Valencian region are receiving significant European funding to improve climate resilience and flood prevention following extreme weather events.

Tavernes de la Valldigna will invest approximately two million euros to reduce flood risks, improve urban drainage, and adapt public spaces. This investment is part of a larger allocation of nearly six million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to the Ribera Baixa and Tavernes functional area. Key projects include upgrading the sewage network and collectors along the CV-50 road and within the El Teularet industrial estate.

In Sueca, the Ministry of Finance has allocated 8.55 million euros from the ERDF under the EDIL DANA framework. These funds are designated for strategic mitigation projects, including the construction of a storm tank and the separation of rainwater and wastewater collector networks to prevent system collapses during torrential rain. Additionally, the funding will support the creation of a new emergency management room and the modernization of emergency vehicle fleets, equipment, and digital management technology. Smaller local entities, including El Perelló and Mareny de Barraquetes, will also benefit from improved hydraulic permeability and infrastructure rehabilitation.
