Spanish municipalities implement water infrastructure improvements
Various municipalities in Spain are undertaking projects to modernize water supply networks and improve efficiency. In L’Espluga de Francolí, the local government is renovating several sections of the potable water network to reduce leaks. Supported by the Catalan Water Agency (ACA), the project aims to increase network efficiency from 49.5% to 75%, potentially saving 147,238 cubic meters of water annually through pipe replacement and the installation of remote monitoring systems.
In the province of Salamanca, the Diputación de Salamanca has approved subsidies under the 2025 Drought Plan to improve water supply in Ciudad Rodrigo and La Fuente de San Esteban. These funds will support the renovation of the Manantial de la Aceñuela catchment network and other service quality improvements.
Additionally, in Sóller, a project has been approved to restore ancient hydraulic infrastructures. This will allow water from the Torrent Major to flow through restored channels to local laundries and surrounding orchards, utilizing a system of traditional irrigation ditches (síquies).
