Spanish museums announce major reopenings and special events

Major Spanish cultural institutions are announcing significant upcoming events. The museums for painting and architecture at El Escorial will reopen on October 2, 2026, following a decade-long closure. Managed by Patrimonio Nacional, the museums will offer free admission to both areas through December 31, 2026. The painting museum will feature approximately 100 works from the Italian, Flemish, and Spanish schools, including artists such as Titian, Tintoretto, and Ribera, with 21 works being presented together for the first time. The architecture museum has also redesigned its tour to integrate the monastery as a central exhibition object.

In Madrid, the Museo del Prado will host a special night opening on October 3, 2026, from 20:30 to 23:30. This event offers free entry to selected ground-floor rooms in the Villanueva Building, covering art from the Romanesque and Gothic periods through the 19th century. The night opening serves as a final opportunity to view the Valeriano D. Bécquer exhibition before it concludes on October 4. The event will include musical and multimedia offerings and is supported by the Community of Madrid and Samsung.
