Spanish museums report summer activity and upcoming autumn exhibitions
The Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao has concluded its summer season while undergoing significant expansion works. Despite the construction, the museum maintained public activity by operating exclusively within its modern building. During July and August, the museum recorded 37,776 visitors, a figure comparable to the previous year despite being closed on Tuesdays due to the works. The exhibition ‘Paralelos y Meridianos’ was a major draw, attracting 78,740 visitors since its April opening.
The museum is currently preparing for a reopening scheduled for October 6, which will include a week of free access.
In Spain, the autumn season features a diverse array of major exhibitions. Notable upcoming shows include a Dalí exhibition at the Thyssen, ‘The Atomic Era’ at the CCCB in Barcelona, and an Anselm Kiefer monograph at La Pedrera. Other significant cultural events include works by Aurèlia Muñoz at Macba and a Perejaume exhibition regarding the architect Jujol at the MNAC.
