Spanish musical societies highlighted for social and cultural impact

Musical societies and traditional performances are being highlighted across Spain for their social and cultural impact. In Albacete, the first National Congress of the Spanish Confederation of Musical Societies (CESM) opened with discussions on the role of these organizations as “living heritage.” Diego Pérez, the provincial delegate for Education, Culture, and Sports, emphasized that musical societies act as engines for social cohesion, education, and the fight against rural depopulation by providing cultural access in smaller municipalities.

In La Vall d’Uixó, the local government and the Ateneu Musical Schola Cantorum are continuing efforts to bring zarzuela to senior citizens. The production of ‘La corte del Faraón’ is scheduled at the Leopoldo Peñarroja Auditorium, featuring a 35-piece live orchestra and over 40 performers. This initiative aims to combine cultural heritage with citizen participation and social engagement for the elderly.
