Lleida driver arrested after fatal car accident in Canal d'Urgell

A 34-year-old man has been arrested by Mossos d'Esquadra following a fatal traffic accident in Golmés, Lleida. The incident occurred on a Sunday evening when a vehicle overturned and fell into the Canal d'Urgell.

Emergency responders discovered the body of a 42-year-old Romanian man, a resident of Mollerussa, in the front passenger seat. The driver was not found at the scene, leading authorities to believe he fled the site without seeking help or alerting emergency services.

The driver was eventually located at his home in Mollerussa around 11:00 PM. He presented minor injuries consistent with an accident and tested positive for alcohol. He faces charges of reckless homicide, omission of the duty to assist, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
