Spanish natural parks highlight migratory bird conservation
Spain's natural parks are highlighting the importance of migratory bird species through conservation efforts and public engagement. In Murcia, the Majal Blanco Forest Park is hosting a free guided route on October 11 to commemorate World Migratory Bird Day. The activity, located along the MU-15 trail in the Sierra de Carrascoy and El Valle regions, aims to educate visitors on bird identification and the necessity of preserving habitats used for migration toward Africa.
In Ciudad Real, Las Tablas de Daimiel National Park has emerged as a critical site for the migration of the black stork. Monitoring efforts since mid-August have recorded 295 individuals, with a peak of 169 birds observed on October 6. The black stork is classified as a vulnerable species due to threats such as habitat alteration, drought, and water pollution. Additionally, the park has recorded significant numbers of common spoonbills during their post-breeding migration.
