Spanish Navy adopts unmanned surface vehicles for future naval warfare

The Spanish Navy is accelerating the integration of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) to enhance its surveillance, reconnaissance, and combat capabilities while reducing risks to personnel. This shift is a central component of the multi-mission operations strategy being developed for the future F-110 frigates, which are designed to coordinate unmanned surface, aerial, and underwater platforms.

Spain has already gained experience with these systems, including the SEAD23 USV, which underwent testing in various exercises. To support this technological transition, the Navy established the Navy Experimentation and Unmanned Vehicles Center (CEVENTA) in Rota, signaling that unmanned systems have moved from experimental technology to a strategic priority.
