Spanish nursing union SATSE reports labor disparities and poor hospital conditions

The nursing union SATSE has raised alarms regarding labor disparities and deteriorating working conditions within the Spanish healthcare system. In Galicia, variations in regional benefits, professional career progression, and stability are driving a migration of nursing staff toward other autonomous communities, such as Castile and León and Andalusia, or even abroad. The union notes that while base pay is standardized nationally, regional differences in supplementary pay and the implementation of career advancements create significant mobility between systems.

Simultaneously, SATSE has denounced the conditions at the Hospital Universitario de Ceuta. The union claims that the facility is facing extreme temperatures of up to 32 degrees Celsius due to failing climate control systems. Furthermore, the union disputes official activity data provided by INGESA and the Ministry of Health, asserting that emergency room visits are significantly higher than reported. These challenges are compounded by increased patient volume linked to the migration crisis and insufficient staffing levels.
