Spanish opposition attacks Sánchez government as Senate reprimands official over blackout

Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of the People’s Party, said that 2025 was "the worst year of the worst government" in Spain’s democratic history, blaming Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s administration for failures in housing, energy, migration, European fund management, family protection and corruption. He called for a new government to restore confidence, improve public services and reinforce security.

In a separate vote, the Spanish Senate censured Sara Aagesen for allegedly concealing the causes of the 2023 nationwide blackout and leaving the chamber. The PP framed the reprimand as evidence of a "cowardly" government, while the PSOE countered that Spain remains an international reference in the energy transition.
