Spanish pharmacists call for healthcare stability and a State Pact
Jesús Aguilar, president of the General Council of Official Colleges of Pharmacists, has called on Spain's new government to establish a State Pact for healthcare. He emphasized the need for political stability to ensure long-term agreements are fulfilled and requested greater professional competencies for pharmacists to allow them to participate more actively in the healthcare system.
Aguilar highlighted several crucial legislative areas, including the Law on the Regulation of Health Professions, the new Framework Statute, and the Medication Law. He also advocated for a stronger focus on preventive medicine and addressing social determinants of health.
In response, the Secretary of State for Health, Javier Padilla, praised the pharmaceutical sector's role in maintaining medication access during emergencies, such as forest fires and the DANA weather event. Padilla recognized the importance of pharmacists as community-rooted health centers and noted their contribution to managing medication shortages through institutional and professional cooperation.
