Spanish pharmacists demand state law for health advertising

The General Council of Pharmaceutical Colleges (CGCOF) has joined dentists, doctors, and veterinarians in demanding the definitive approval of a state law regarding health advertising. This collective demand aims to establish a common regulatory framework for the advertising of healthcare centers, establishments, products, and services.

The push for regulation follows recent closures of various clinics and healthcare centers, which the CGCOF states has left many patients in a state of “vulnerability and uncertainty,” particularly when such closures disrupt ongoing treatments or create doubts regarding the continuity of care.

Professional organizations argue that health advertising must adhere to strict criteria of rigor, prudence, veracity, and transparency. They emphasize that regulation is necessary to prevent messages that could create “false expectations or mislead citizens,” ensuring that the protection of public health prevails over commercial interests.
