Spain launches nationwide speed‑control campaign Aug 3‑9, adding new radars and local police checks
From 3 to 9 August, Spain’s Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) is running a special speed‑control operation across the country. The campaign, coordinated through the European RoadPol network, introduces five new radar points in Albacete, Segovia and Soria and expands monitoring on highways, autovías, conventional roads and urban streets. Drivers exceeding limits may receive fines of €100‑600 and lose up to six licence points.
Local police forces are intensifying checks in several regions. Tarragona’s urban guard, Zaragoza’s police, the Guardia Civil in Ciudad Real, Cuenca, the Canary Islands and Sevilla all deployed additional patrols, aerial units and road‑side checks during the same week. The effort targets speed‑related accidents, which account for roughly 30 % of fatal road crashes in Spain, aiming to lower the number of serious injuries and deaths.
The coordinated actions combine human patrols, radar equipment and public awareness messages, reinforcing the DGT’s 2030 road‑safety strategy to halve traffic‑related fatalities by the end of the decade.
