Spanish police detain suspects in jewelry store robberies in Las Palmas and Madrid
In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the National Police arrested a man suspected of taking part in a violent robbery of a jewelry shop in the El Mirador shopping centre on 7 July. Masked assailants used an extinguisher and blunt objects to smash display cases and steal jewellery. No staff were injured. Police traced the getaway vehicle, recovered items such as jewellery tags and an extinguisher, and detained the suspect for further investigation.
In the Madrid region, the Guardia Civil’s elite Unidad Especial de Intervención (UEI) intercepted a second Peruvian‑linked gang as they attempted to rob a jewellery store in the Parque Corredor centre in Torrejón de Ardoz. Seven suspects were arrested within minutes, two pistols were seized, and the operation was linked to a recent spate of mall jewellery robberies in Pinto and Torrelodones. The detainees were taken to the Guardia Civil command in Tres Cantos.
