Spanish police intercept overloaded van and seize contraband tobacco in separate checks

During the San Fermín festivities in Pamplona, the Navarre regional police stopped a van that was transporting 4,200 kg of liquid consumables, exceeding the vehicle’s authorized maximum weight of 3,500 kg by about 20%. The inspection confirmed the overload and a sanction proposal was issued, citing risks to vehicle stability and road safety.

In a separate operation in Salvaterra de Miño, Galicia, the Guardia Civil’s Fiscal and Border patrol intercepted a foreign‑registered van belonging to a 67‑year‑old Portuguese resident. Inside were 246 packs of untaxed tobacco, far above Spain’s limit of 10 packs per person. The contraband was confiscated and an administrative fine for smuggling was filed, with officials warning of health and safety hazards from unregulated products.
