Spain police prevent Blocus movement riots across major cities
A massive police deployment across several Spanish cities, including Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, and San Sebastián, successfully prevented widespread looting and violence planned by the Blocus movement on Halloween weekend. Following violent disturbances on October 24 that resulted in numerous injuries and arrests, authorities implemented high-level security measures, including the use of wooden boards to protect shop windows and the deployment of thousands of officers.
In Barcelona, the Mossos d'Esquadra and Guardia Urbana identified 2,264 individuals across Catalonia, with 1,440 in Barcelona alone. Authorities reported 181 administrative reports, primarily for the possession of dangerous objects such as stones and sprays. In Madrid, approximately 1,700 municipal officers were deployed to secure commercial areas like Gran Vía and Montera.
Investigations into the Blocus movement have led to multiple arrests. A 20-year-old man in Picanya, Valencia, has been placed in provisional prison and is accused of being the founder and primary promoter of Blocus Spain. Other detainees include individuals accused of managing communication groups used to coordinate violent actions and a minor in Barcelona held for alleged resistance to authority.
