Spanish police seize cats and roosters in crackdown on animal cruelty

The Guardia Civil’s environmental protection service (SEPRONA) in Spain concluded investigations into two separate animal‑cruelty cases.

In La Puebla de Valverde, Teruel province, investigators linked the shooting of several cats to a 17 HMR rifle owned by a suspect, collected ballistic evidence, and have placed the suspect before the Teruel court.

In Campanet, Mallorca, SEPRONA agents uncovered an illegal rooster‑fighting farm containing about 350 Spanish fighting roosters, more than 70 of which showed injuries. The raid also seized veterinary drugs, surgical tools, and identified three persons under investigation for animal‑cruelty and illegal professional practice.

The seized animals and materials have been handed to the judicial authorities and the investigations remain open.
