Feijóo demands Spanish elections following housing decree defeat
Spanish opposition leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo has called for the immediate dissolution of Parliament and the convening of general elections. Following the parliamentary defeat of two government housing decrees, Feijóo asserted that the current legislature has entered a 'terminal phase' and that the country can no longer endure the prevailing political instability.
Feijóo accused Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez of using housing issues for electoral maneuvering and criticized the government for operating without parliamentary support or approved budgets. He characterized the government's reliance on decree-laws as a failure to respect the division of powers.
In a separate dialogue at the Foro La Toja, former Prime Ministers Felipe González and Mariano Rajoy expressed similar sentiments. They agreed that the legislature should have concluded some time ago, citing the lack of general state budgets and the government's management of various crises as primary reasons for the need for new elections.
