Spanish political parties face internal shifts and brand registrations

In Spain, internal political developments are unfolding within both Catalunya en Comú and the PSOE. Catalunya en Comú has registered a new entity named Somos Partido Progresista (SPP). Party leaders state the registration is purely instrumental, intended to secure the brand name and prevent others from using the denomination in future elections, rather than to launch a new electoral platform.

Meanwhile, the PSOE is experiencing internal friction following primary elections for mayoral candidates in Madrid and Oviedo. In Madrid, Reyes Maroto secured victory over Enma López by a narrow margin of 204 votes. In Oviedo, the process required a second round, resulting in Sergio Llera being selected as the candidate. These internal contests have led to political tensions and the resignation of the local general secretary in Oviedo.
