Catalan police officer sentenced to 21 years for sexual assault of disabled woman

A member of the Mossos d'Esquadra was sentenced by the Audiencia of Barcelona to a total of 21 years in prison for a series of sexual assaults against a woman with a recognized intellectual disability. The court found that the officer had fabricated a scheme, posing as a tutor for a massage academy, to gain the victim’s trust and compel her to submit to repeated sexual acts, which he filmed and photographed. He was convicted of 16 years for continuous sexual aggression with abuse of a mental condition and penetration, plus five years for pornographic offences involving abuse of a position of confidence. The judgment also includes a 16‑year prohibition on approaching the victim, a ban on contact for ten years, and an eight‑year period of supervised liberty after release. He must pay €60,000 in civil damages to the victim. The sentencing reflects the court’s consideration of the offender’s abuse of authority and the victim’s vulnerability.
