Spanish priest facilitates over 1,280 marriages via WhatsApp

Fernando Cuevas, a Spanish priest and member of Opus Dei, has facilitated more than 1,280 marriages over the last 15 years. Operating primarily through WhatsApp, Cuevas connects single Catholics seeking marriage based on shared faith and values.

To manage the high volume of requests—sometimes receiving up to 60 messages a day—Cuevas uses a simple questionnaire. His primary requirements for participants are that they must be over the age of 25 and attend Sunday Mass. He also considers factors such as religious commitment, location, and spiritual affinity to ensure compatibility.

Due to the increasing number of requests, Cuevas has begun working with Father Vicente Huerta to assist in reviewing profiles. Unlike traditional dating applications that rely on algorithms and physical appearance, Cuevas’s method focuses on finding stable, faith-centered relationships.
