Leonor and Sofia raise Spain’s profile at World Cup final and public engagements

King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia will travel to New York for the 2026 World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, marking the first occasion that all four members of the Spanish royal family attend an official men’s national‑team match abroad. Earlier in the week the sisters returned to the UWC Atlantic College in Wales, the school where they completed their International Baccalaureate. Leonor, having finished three years of military training, will study politics at the public Carlos III University in Madrid, while Sofia prepares for university studies. Their reunion with students and staff underscored a generational continuity in the monarchy’s public role.

In Madrid the duo also made an unannounced appearance at a meeting with young people with disabilities, discussing inclusion and highlighting the “Reina Letizia para la Inclusión” programme that provides grants for disability‑related projects. Their fashion choices at recent events—coordinated colour palettes, a pastel Zara dress for Sofia and a coral‑pink blouse for Leonor—have drawn media attention, further reinforcing the royal family’s evolving institutional presence.
