Spanish public administration appointment wait times improve in August

Wait times for appointments within Spain's General State Administration showed significant improvements during August, according to the latest report from the Public Management Observatory of the Madrid Administrative Managers.

Notable improvements were seen in the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT), where procedures such as vehicle registration and ownership changes dropped from a 14-day wait at the end of July to just one day. Driving licenses and international permits, which previously had no availability in late July, now have appointments available within three days. Similarly, Cadastre (Catastro) wait times for ownership requests decreased from seven days in July to two days in August.

However, delays persist for certain services. The issuance of the National Identity Document (DNI) in central Madrid remains a significant bottleneck; an appointment requested on August 31 was scheduled for October 5, a 35-day wait. While this is a slight improvement from the 40-day wait recorded in July, it remains much higher than the 14-day wait recorded earlier in the year.
