Spanish publishing market sees growth in sports literature
The Spanish publishing sector is experiencing sustained growth, with the Federación de Gremios de Editores de España reporting that domestic market revenues reached 3,138.5 million euros in 2025. This represents a 3.3% increase compared to 2024, with 196.12 million paper copies sold, marking twelve consecutive years of growth.
A notable trend within this expansion is the rising prominence of sports literature. Once considered a secondary subgenre, sports writing is increasingly entering the mainstream. Editors note that while the genre still seeks higher prestige, it is evolving to address complex social themes, such as mental health, rather than merely focusing on athletic achievements.
Eneko Gárate of Libros de Ruta and Álvaro Llorca of Libros del K. O. highlight that sports serve as a significant lens for explaining societal shifts, helping the genre gain respect among booksellers and readers alike.
