Spanish rail infrastructure projects advance in Bilbao and Navarre
Infrastructure developments are progressing in the Basque Country and Navarre. In the Bilbao Metro Line 5 project, Euskal Trenbide Sarea (ETS) has completed excavations for the Aperribai and Bengoetxe stations. Work is also advancing toward the Galdakao-Usansolo Hospital terminal, which is designed to provide direct access via elevators. The arrival of the metro in Galdakao and Usansolo is currently scheduled for 2030.
In Navarre, construction of the High-Speed Train (TAV) has reached a milestone with the completion of a viaduct over the Ebro River near Castejón, representing an investment of 58.8 million euros. However, officials have not yet established a timeline for the connection between Castejón and Zaragoza. The Secretary of State for Transport, José Antonio Santano, noted that while the viaduct represents significant progress, specific dates for the next stages remain uncertain due to the complexity of the works and ongoing studies regarding the Tudela station location.
