Spanish rail services face delays due to weather and mechanical failures

Severe weather and technical failures have caused significant disruptions across the Spanish rail network. On the Madrid-Barcelona high-speed line, a lightning strike damaged the catenary between Sant Vicenç dels Horts and El Prat de Llobregat, forcing the corridor to operate on a single track. Adif is working to repair the power supply, though delays may increase during peak hours.

Additional disruptions include signaling issues on the R2 Rodalies line between Sitges and Vilanova i la Geltrú, and delays on the Tarragona-Reus section caused by cable theft.

In a separate incident on the C2 Cercanías line, a mechanical breakdown of a medium-distance train between Manuel-L’Ènova and Xàtiva necessitated an unusual passenger transfer. Renfe staff used metal safety plates to create a walkway between two trains on the tracks, allowing passengers to move from the stalled train to a following service.
