Spanish regional authorities advance disability inclusion initiatives
Regional authorities in Spain are advancing initiatives to promote social inclusion and accessibility for people with disabilities.
In Andalusia, Social Services Counselor Loles López visited the ‘AMAR’ Occupational Therapy Day Center in Aroche, Huelva. López emphasized the importance of fostering autonomy and full participation for individuals with disabilities, particularly in rural areas facing depopulation. The center provides daytime care and workshops to develop personal skills and improve quality of life for users and their families.
In La Palma, the Cabildo is collaborating with 14 municipal governments to implement inclusive campuses across the island. Led by Social Action Counselor Ángeles Fernández, the project aims to provide adapted recreational and sports spaces for children and adolescents within their own municipalities. This initiative, part of the ‘Inclusion where I live’ strategy, seeks to reduce travel distances and ensure barrier-free access to activities, following a successful pilot program in Tijarafe.
