Spanish regional authorities face backlash over Catalonia and Valencia wildfires

VOX parliamentary spokesman Joan Garriga called for the resignations of Catalonia's territorial council after the La Bisbal d’Empordà wildfire, blaming European policies and alleging mismanagement by the regional department. He also criticised the use of public funds for housing illegal immigrants.

In the Valencian Community, Compromís lawmaker Joan Baldoví condemned the PP‑Vox regional government's handling of the Soneja fire in Castellón, alleging cuts to firefighter budgets, the dissolution of the Valencian Emergency Unit, and a €300,000 transfer to a bull‑fighting foundation. Baldoví highlighted that the heat wave has already caused over 1,000 deaths across Spain, intensifying scrutiny of emergency preparedness.

Both incidents have ignited political disputes over fire‑prevention policies, resource allocation, and broader governance amid a severe heat wave.
