Spanish regional authorities promote accessibility and inclusion
Regional authorities in Spain are highlighting the importance of universal accessibility and social inclusion for people with disabilities.
In Castilla-La Mancha, the Commissioner for Accessibility, José Luis Escudero, participated in events held by ONCE in Talavera de la Reina to mark ‘White Cane Day’. Escudero called for increased social awareness to ensure that blind and visually impaired individuals can navigate public spaces, transportation, and health centers without unnecessary obstacles. He specifically emphasized the importance of respecting guide dogs, which provide essential autonomy and security.
Meanwhile, in Galicia, the Parliament of Galicia was awarded the ONCE Social Group Solidarity Award. This recognition honors the institution’s long-term commitment to integration, including the implementation of sign language, improved physical access to the Pazo do Hórreo, electromagnetic loops for hearing aid users, and specialized resources for individuals with autism. Parliament President Miguel Ángel Santalices reaffirmed the institution's goal to eliminate barriers to democratic participation.
