Spanish regional councils launch new traditional craft workshops
Local government bodies in Spain are introducing new educational programs to preserve traditional craftsmanship.
The Consell de Ibiza has opened registration for 12 free courses for the 2026-2027 period. The program aims to conserve traditional trades and support new artisanal projects. A notable addition is the course ‘From artisanal fashion to designer fashion,’ led by artisan Ariadna Ferrer. This course focuses on the creative process and brand building, connecting local identity with modern design. Applications are accepted between October 23 and October 30.
In Fuerteventura, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura has launched two new workshops through its ‘EnRedArte’ program. These include a workshop on ‘Almazuelas and Traditional Patchwork’ in Tuineje, taught by Bianca Scarpari, and a palm basketry course in Gran Tarajal. These initiatives are part of an institutional effort to transmit and preserve the island's traditional artisanal knowledge.
