Spanish regional groups demand improvements to railway services

Local authorities and citizen groups in Spain are intensifying demands for improvements to regional railway services, citing inadequate frequencies and schedules that fail to meet the needs of workers and students.

In the Castelló–Vinaròs–Tarragona–Barcelona corridor, the political group Compromís has proposed a regional front to pressure the Ministry of Transport and Renfe. The goal is to establish a new early morning service to improve connections with Catalonia. Similar motions have already received unanimous support from local councils in Benicarló, Benicàssim, Castelló de la Plana, Peníscola, and Torreblanca.

In Galicia, residents of Ferrol report nine months of stagnation following massive protests regarding the Ferrol-Ribadeo line. Despite previous indications from the Minister of Transport regarding potential updates, activists claim the current service remains unviable for daily commuting, as schedules are primarily designed to complement long-distance trains to Madrid rather than serving local connectivity.
