Spanish regional groups demand restoration of railway services

Various railway advocacy groups and local authorities in Spain are campaigning for the restoration of regional train services. In Baza, Granada, collectives have collected 3,000 signatures to demand that the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, reconsider the reopening of the Guadix-Baza-Almanzora-Lorca railway line. These groups cite a University of Granada report asserting the strategic viability and profitability of the route as part of the Mediterranean Railway Corridor.

Simultaneously, the municipal government of Gandia has achieved unanimous support to demand the return of the Civis train service on the C1 line between Gandia and Valencia. The initiative, presented by the People's Party (PP), seeks to reinstate the semi-direct service that was discontinued in 2022. Local leaders argue that restoring the service would significantly reduce travel times for commuters and students while making public transport more competitive against private vehicles.
