Spanish regional health authorities announce hospital expansion and emergency care networks

In Aragón, Health Counselor Ángel Sanz has launched a participatory process to define the future of the Hospital Universitario Royo Villanova. The project aims to modernize and expand the facility, which currently manages 258 beds and over 52,000 emergency visits annually. The new infrastructure is expected to triple the current surface area, increasing the number of beds and operating rooms with a focus on sustainability and advanced technology. Four potential locations are being considered: the Academia General Militar area, San Gregorio, the Ronda de Boltaña surroundings, and the Cogullada highway. Public and professional feedback will be collected until the end of October.

Simultaneously, in Castilla-La Mancha, the regional government is establishing a coordinated network to treat cardiogenic shock. Óscar Talavera, Director General of Hospitals for Sescam, announced the creation of a working group to design care circuits and algorithms for these critical patients. The initiative seeks to integrate medical resources and optimize critical patient transport to ensure that treatment speed is not dictated by a patient's geographic location. The model will utilize existing resources, including 24 mobile intensive care units and a regional medical helicopter network.
