Spanish regional parties protest local planning decisions

The municipal coalition Compromís in Castelló announced it will file formal objections to a proposed amendment of the city’s General Urban Plan that would alter the historic Ribalta Park. Party spokesperson Ignasi Garcia said the park “has architectural, botanical, historic and cultural value that must be protected” and warned the changes threaten the city’s heritage.

In Catalonia, Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) criticised the Montsià County Council for “paralysis and inaction” on the Territorial Renewable Energy Plan (PLATER). ERC spokesperson Mercè Carbó said the council had failed to convene local mayors or present a balanced proposal, contrasting the approach of other comarcas that have already submitted their own comments.

Both parties are demanding greater consultation and protection of local interests as municipal authorities pursue new urban and energy projects.
