Spanish regional presidents discuss AI governance in Bilbao

The presidents of Andalusia, Catalonia, the Canary Islands, and the Basque Country met in Bilbao to discuss the integration of artificial intelligence into public administration. The leaders participated in the launch of the Future Government Center, an initiative by NTT DATA designed to foster innovation and collaboration in public management.

During the event, the leaders emphasized the need for human oversight, ethical frameworks, and transparency to build citizen trust. Imanol Pradales, the Lehendakari, advocated for 'digital self-government' to maintain public control over data and reduce dependency on external technologies. Salvador Illa, President of Catalonia, stressed that AI governance must serve the general interest rather than corporate interests.

Juanma Moreno, President of Andalusia, highlighted the creation of a dedicated Ministry for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development to coordinate digital transformation. He also addressed concerns regarding job security, noting that training and professional adaptation are priorities as the technology evolves.
