Spanish regions boost disability sports and adapted school transport

The Provincial Sports and Functional Diversity Commission in Huelva, chaired by sports deputy Juan Daniel Romero, approved two initiatives to raise awareness of disability sport. One is a workshop with Club Deportivo Sordos that traces the club’s history and world‑championship success in deaf football. The other centers on the documentary “Aliento,” which tells the story of local Paralympic swimmer David Sánchez and will be screened in municipalities followed by a discussion.

In Galicia, the regional government (Xunta) signed collaboration agreements with 17 specialist organisations, overseen by councilor Diego Calvo, to fund more than €2 million for adapted school transport in the 2026‑27 academic year – a roughly 6 % increase over the previous budget. The funding will cover travel between students’ homes, schools and rehabilitation centres, ensuring safe, accessible transport for pupils with various disabilities.
