Spanish researchers advance medical technology via robotics and AI

Spanish researchers are advancing medical technology through robotics and artificial intelligence. Ana Cisnal, a researcher at the University of Valladolid, specializes in medical robotics focused on motor function rehabilitation and evaluation. Her work includes the RobHand project, which develops robotic exoskeletons for hand rehabilitation following strokes. Her expertise was further developed through research at the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering in Germany.

In a separate advancement, Mario Pascual, a student at the University of Malaga, has received national recognition for using deep learning to predict the growth of meningiomas. His research, which won third prize from the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence (AEPIA), utilizes multimodal magnetic resonance imaging to anticipate how these brain tumors evolve. To overcome the lack of longitudinal data, Pascual collaborated with the Regional University Hospital of Malaga to create a dataset capable of tracking tumor progression over time.
