Spanish researchers recognized in Stanford University top scientist ranking
Several researchers from Spanish institutions have been named among the world’s most cited scientists in the ranking published by Stanford University and Elsevier.
At the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), Jaime Gómez-Hernández and Luis Guanter of the Institute of Water Engineering and Environment (IIAMA-UPV) have maintained their positions in the ‘World’s Top 2% Scientists’ list since 2020. Guanter is recognized for both career-long impact and recent citations in satellite Earth observation, while Gómez-Hernández is noted for his sustained contributions to hydrogeology and groundwater management.
Additionally, 55 scientists from Miguel Hernández University (UMH) were included in the international ranking. Among them, six researchers from the Institute of Neurosciences (IN)—a joint center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and UMH—were highlighted for their excellence in fields such as physiology. The ranking utilizes bibliometric indicators, including the C-index, to evaluate scientific impact based on citations and authorship position.
