Spanish retail maintains 95.7% product availability rate
According to the ‘Barómetro OSA’ report by AECOC and NIQ, product availability in the Spanish distribution sector remains high, with an average availability rate of 95.7%. This indicates that only 4.3% of potential sales opportunities in consumer goods are lost due to stockouts.
However, availability varies significantly by category. The beverage section shows the lowest availability at 92.8%, specifically affecting beer, milk, and soft drinks. In contrast, categories such as drugstore and perfume (98.2%), fresh and frozen foods (97.9%), and packaged food (97%) maintain higher levels of stock.
When consumers encounter an empty shelf, their reactions differ. Data from AECOC Shopperview shows that in 30% of shopping trips, a customer notices a missing product. Among those affected, 48% choose to purchase the same item from a different brand, 26% postpone the purchase until their next visit, 16% select a different product than intended, and 11% seek the item at another establishment.
