Spanish rhythmic gymnastics world champions demand better funding

Members of the Spanish rhythmic gymnastics world championship team, including captain Inés Bergua, have publicly criticized the lack of economic recognition for their achievements. During an appearance on the television program ‘La Revuelta’, the athletes addressed the financial disparity between their rewards and their international success.

Following their gold medal win at the World Championships in Frankfurt, the team noted that while they will receive public grants next year, the compensation remains insufficient. One athlete remarked that the current rewards are only enough to ‘buy a car each,’ highlighting that the amount is significantly lower than what other world champions in different disciplines receive.

The team’s recent accomplishments include a historic triple gold at the 2025 European Championships, a repeat performance in Varna in 2026, and the recent world title in Frankfurt, which secured Spain's qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
