Spanish Royal Family to visit Llanes for Exemplary Town award

The Spanish Royal Family, including King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor, and Infanta Sofía, will visit Llanes on Saturday, October 24. The visit centers on the Santa Ana Fishermen's Guild, which has been named the 'Pueblo Ejemplar' (Exemplary Town) of Asturias for 2026.

During the visit, the royals will board the fishing vessel ‘Nuevo Sandra María’ to learn about traditional artisanal fishing methods. The itinerary includes a demonstration of anchovy production at the local cannery and an encounter with various members of the maritime community, including retired fishermen.

A significant cultural highlight will involve the three traditional districts of Llanes—La Magdalena, San Roque, and La Guía—which will unite for the first time in 76 years to welcome the royals. Approximately 75 representatives will participate in traditional dances and wear local attire, showcasing the region's historical costumes and customs.
