Spanish scholars receive cultural honors for literature and heritage work

In Spain, two cultural figures have received significant honors for their contributions to literature and heritage.

José Manuel Lucía Megías, a prominent scholar and writer specializing in Miguel de Cervantes, will be named ‘Gran Sancho Panza’ by the Sociedad Cervantina de Alcázar de San Juan. The award, to be presented on September 19 in Alcázar de San Juan, recognizes his extensive research in philology, digital humanities, and Cervantes iconography, as well as his leadership in the Red de Ciudades Cervantinas.

Separately, Juan Latorre Durán has been awarded the ‘Bara Jaquesa 2026’ by the Asociación Sancho Ramírez. The distinction, presented in the Citadel of Jaca, honors Latorre’s lifelong commitment to the conservation and promotion of the heritage of Jacetania and the province of Huesca through his educational work, publications, and detailed drawings of local architectural elements.
