Spanish study links social media addiction to lower sexual desire
A study published in the scientific journal BMC Psychology suggests a link between intensive social media use and a decrease in sexual desire. The research, conducted by Spanish doctors and psychiatrists from Carlos III and Infanta Leonor hospitals, as well as the Universities of Alcalá de Henares and Pontifical Comillas, analyzed the sexual activity of over 500 individuals.
The findings indicate that those with problematic or addictive patterns of digital platform use manifest a lower libido. This decline in sexual appetite is particularly notable among individuals in stable relationships, where the habit of using mobile devices and scrolling through social media—often in bed before sleep—is becoming increasingly common.
