Spanish supermarkets BM Urban and Ahorramás exceed inflation rates

Data from the Organisation of Consumers and Users (OCU) indicates that two major Spanish supermarket chains, BM Urban and Ahorramás, saw price increases exceeding the national inflation rate between April 2025 and May 2026.

During this period, Spain’s general Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 3.2%. In comparison, prices at BM Urban increased by 5.1%, while Ahorramás saw a rise of 4.4%. BM Urban’s price hikes were particularly pronounced in its economic basket—a selection of lower-priced products—which increased by 6.5%.

The OCU noted that these two chains were the only major supermarkets in its comparison where overall price increases outpaced general inflation.
