Spanish Supreme Court transfers Landaluce investigation to Algeciras
The Spanish Supreme Court has transferred a criminal investigation involving José Ignacio Landaluce to the courts in Algeciras. The court ruled it no longer holds jurisdiction over the case following Landaluce's resignation from the Senate, which stripped him of his parliamentary immunity (aforamiento).
The investigation involves allegations of crimes against sexual freedom and, alternatively, crimes against public administration. This legal shift follows Landaluce's recent departure from the Senate and his resignation as the Mayor of Algeciras, a position he held since June 2011.
Landaluce previously appeared before a judge in Algeciras regarding the sexual freedom allegations, maintaining his innocence. His resignation from the mayoralty occurred amid pressure from the People's Party following the legal complaints.
