Alcañiz inaugurates new 25-meter heated swimming pool
Alcañiz has inaugurated a new 25-meter heated swimming pool to expand the city's sports offerings and meet long-standing local demand. The facility features six lanes, varying depths between 2 and 2.20 meters, and a capacity of 656 cubic meters of water. Designed for accessibility, it includes ramps and an elevator for people with reduced mobility, as well as electronic timing and starting platforms suitable for competitions. The pool also includes spectator seating for over 100 people.
The project received a 600,000 euro contribution from the Teruel Investment Fund. This is part of a broader strategic investment by the Government of Aragon, which has allocated over 71.7 million euros to various projects in Alcañiz since August 2023, including a new hospital and infrastructure improvements for MotorLand and Technopark.
The opening ceremony included the Vice President of the Government of Aragon, Mar Vaquero, and the Mayor of Alcañiz, Miguel Ángel Estevan. Also in attendance was Andorran swimmer Irene Ciércoles, who participated in an exhibition with the Bajo Aragón Swimming Club. The new facility is expected to benefit local clubs such as Club de Natación Bajo Aragón and Club Tragamillas.
