Mónica García faces death threats and housing policy pressure

Spanish Minister of Health Mónica García is facing dual political and security challenges. A 50-year-old teacher from Murcia has been detained by the National Police for making grave and direct death threats against her. The individual allegedly made two phone calls to the Más Madrid municipal group, during which he threatened to “cut her neck” and used derogatory sexual insults.

Simultaneously, political tensions are rising within the government regarding a pending housing decree. Mónica García, representing the Sumar coalition, has pressured the PSOE to ensure the decree includes robust protections. Sumar is demanding regulations for both primary residences and seasonal rentals, including price freezes and automatic contract renewals, to prevent evictions similar to the case of Maricarmen. García stated that the current situation marks a “turning point,” requiring the PSOE to choose between speculation and protecting families.
