Spain's regions announce new education, sports and cultural grant programmes
Municipalities in several Spanish regions have opened new grant programmes for schools and local communities. The city of Alcalá de Henares will allocate €12,000 to parents' associations (AMPAs) to fund extracurricular and cultural activities in schools, with applications due 29 June. The town of La Pobla de Farnals is offering sport scholarships for elite athletes and extra‑curricular activities for children aged 3‑17, with a filing window from 15 to 30 June 2026.
The Government of the Canary Islands will include higher artistic education courses taught in public centres in its autonomous scholarship scheme for 2026‑2027, expanding eligibility and raising the residence allowance to €3,000. Meanwhile, the Valencian Community’s Education, Culture and Universities Ministry has launched the 2026‑2027 “Banco de Libros” programme, investing €70.7 million to renew textbooks and curriculum material for public and concerted schools, with €55.7 million earmarked for public institutions and a 100 % renewal rate for odd‑year classes.
These measures aim to strengthen educational resources, promote sport and cultural participation, and reduce family expenses across the regions.
